San Alfonso del mar is a private resort in Chile. It is one of the most famous resorts because of the incredible pool.
San Alfonso del mar has the largest pool in the world. The length of the pool is around 1km and has a depth of up to 35 meters! The pool water is around 26ºC which means it is 9ºC warmer than the sea.
The building costs are estimated at around 2 billion dollars! But the maintenance isn’t cheap either. It will cost you at least 4 million dollars to keep the 250.000.000 liter water clean.
To keep the water clean there is a constant flow of fresh seawater through the filters so it is desalinating the water. The pool water is also cleaned and filtered when it is going back into the sea.
Businessman and founder of this pool, Fernando Fischmann
said: “As long as we have access to unlimited seawater, we can make it work, and it causes no damage to the ocean.” And you could be forgiven for thinking you are swimming alone in the ocean…but then a kayak passes you and it becomes a little surreal. Yes, you can sail small boats or paddle your canoe if you feel the need, this pool is big enough for everyone.
