Optimus Maximus: mixing keys with oled-displays

The most revolutionary gadget at this moment has 113 individual oled-displays and you can type with it. The Optimus Maximus, developed by Art Lebedev, takes keyboards to a whole new dimension. Instead of having normal keys it uses small color oled-displays. Each oled-display can be fully configured to the function you want. You can also configure the image that’s displayed in the keys en you can even display video’s in it.

Configuring the Optimus Maximus is easily done with the Optimus Maximus Configurator software. Each individual key/display can be fully configured in function and what it displays. You can even show the CPU usage in the screens. As the software uses layer style editing it’s possible to create complete keyboard-layouts.
Firm price tag
There aren’t much downsides to the Optimus Maximus that we can think of. The keyboard looks really astonishing and with little effort it’s really easy adjustable. Unfortunately producing oled-displays is a costly business, as we can see in the retail price of 1900 dollars.
